Standing at only five feet and one inch, River Jordan “Petey” Peterson could very easily be lost in a crowd. However, don’t be misled by her pint-sized stature; this blonde-headed, bright-smiled girl is a ball of charisma that shines so bright on the stage, you’ll want to wear your Ray Bans. Petey’s been dancing since her highchair days, but she began taking lessons at age five. She received her early training from nationally acclaimed choreographer Hannah Peabody at the Art of Motion Dance Company in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Growing up in Fayetteville, Petey performed and competed at many venues and competitions, winning numerous dance scholarships and even dancing her way into the title of state champion for a winning duet.  During her years at Fayetteville High School, Petey served as the captain of the state champion-winning FHS dance team. Also while attending FHS, Petey was cast as Glinda the Good in Bakstage Dance Company’s production of The Wiz. Eager to begin her dancing career in Dallas, Petey graduated early from FHS in the fall of 2007. She was invited to choreograph for UDA in the summer of 2008, but chose to remain in Dallas, where she trained under Kitty Carter, Nicole Hill, Leslie Snelson-Figueroa. In 2009 Petey tried out for Collin County’s “So you think you can dance?” competition and made the cut. She quickly advanced to the top 20, and after multiple cuts, was eventually voted CCSYTYCD favorite dancer. Petey has had extensive training in jazz, modern, ballet and fell in love with Hip Hop at the age of ten under the instruction of choreographer Angel Beasley. When she’s not shining on the stage, Petey brings the fireworks to the studio. She is beyond thrilled to be a member of the Dallas Powerhouse of Dance and cannot wait to work with students who share her deep passion for dancing.
